This revised HKS supercharger kit would be amazing for the wife's BRZ... too bad it carries the HKS name tax and probably would make me do internals on her engine to use it's full potential... but still...

So much want to do... they are saying it's good to 400whp. I think that's enough for her DD.

How about the Innovate setup. That looks pretty slick.

Sorry, where's the supercharger at? Is it the small metal thing behind the HKS logo? :3

the only reason i would see to not do it is if her DD becomes faster then urs.
other then that, go for it.

lol. That is a legit problem

I've been kicking around the idea of the FA20Club Turbo kit for my FR-S, myself. What kind of gains do you get from the HKS kit with the stock engine setup?
![]() 02/27/2014 at 13:07 |

Meh. I like screws better than half a turbo
![]() 02/27/2014 at 13:09 |

Then get it out of your wallet: do it.

The price is a bit hefty on that. You can get a twin scroll set up, with a really nice turbo for around the same price! Do you want to supercharge it or are you open to a turbocharger? I would love to supercharge it but that is not happening for 5 or 6 years.

Wow, thanks for that. Looks like both a poor kit and a really shitty build. *Sigh* Time to pay the extra for a Greddy.

Or you can get something from these guys!! You have kits from 3.3k to 5 grand. The 5 grand one is totally amazing though.
http://jdlautodesign.net/product-catego…
Also check out speed by design, they have a turbo kit identical to the Greddy one except it is cheaper.

If it does, then upgrade yours more to make it faster. Problem solved.

And then repeat.

I like the Innovate setup better. The centrifugal superchargers make more power, but they are peakier than the roots-type. Also, they have the full kit with intercooler and tune now, so hopefully there will be no unfortunate grenading.

Must add loop counter to cease the madness.

No! Must have more powaah!
![]() 02/27/2014 at 14:41 |

It depends what you want. There's a huge potential difference between the two kits. I was looking at the Innovate (and still am) but it couldn't touch a setup like this for power potential or sex appeal.

I was just looking for that link. Thanks for saving me the time ;)

Look at Full Blown Motorsports too. I have seen good things about theirs as well.

Well that's a possibility... a 400WHP BRZ would be a monster, like almost into the 10 second range in the 1/4... that would mean I would have to mod up my bike and car too.
I'll be happy with her car around 300HP... but I over build everything to maintain low stress on components. At 300HP it would be around the same as my DD acceleration wise.
![]() 02/27/2014 at 14:47 |

Power potential? Definitely. The centrifugals produce more peak power.
Sex appeal? No idea why that would be. Other than the big HKS plate on the front, what could possibly dictate that? The pipes and intercooler can be just as shiny on any kit. Plus, the bulging intake of a roots has a muscular look.
I've been looking at FI options, and if it's a supercharger, I would stay with a roots, because it's a DD. The centrifugal gets more peak power, but it adds a peaky nature to the torque curve that is accentuated in a small displacement engine.
![]() 02/27/2014 at 14:50 |
|
You can tune either option for whatever power band you are looking for... it's all about matching the size of compressor to the engine and specs you want. The centrifugal is running on the exact same wheel system as the roots.
Really turbos are the same way, if you want boost at 1500 rpm and to end at 3000 rpm, you can get there with the right turbo... just almost no one would every build one that way.
My big like on the Innovate kit is the isolated oil system... that's a big thumbs up from me because that means I can maintain it independent of the rest of the oil system and less lines to leak.
![]() 02/27/2014 at 14:51 |
|
I like them as well... no where near this power potential or tune-ability, but they are the other one I'm debating about depending on the power I'm allowed to build the BRZ for.
![]() 02/27/2014 at 14:53 |

A centrifugal supercharger will be no peakier than a roots system if size the same. Generally the peakyness is that people want the peak feel of a turbo, but the rapid response of the supercharger, so they size them like a mid to large turbo. You can also get tunes for both styles.
The intercharged Innovate kit is the one I have in contention with this one. My favorite part of the innovate kit is the simplicity and separate oil system. That's a big bonus on a DD.

XD. bring it up to 300. carthriottle just tested a BRX with this kit (@270) and a bunch of suspension goodies, and they said it was MILES ahead of the stock car in everyway.
![]() 02/27/2014 at 15:03 |
|
Well yeah, that's 50% more power and probably 30% better grip... they are a lot like Miatas, the potential is there, you just have to message it out. If a BRZ has 300WHP that's a solid 12 second vehicle, which is fast by almost anyone's standards.
I'm hoping to stop my Z at 350HP... but boost is addictive.

BOOOOOOOOSSSTTTTTTT
or, do what i'm (going) to do.
purchese reliable, cheap to run DD (hoping to pick up dads A3 TDI. 800miles to a 20gallon tank)
have motorcycle for fun machine(already have it)

I already have an 11' ninja 1000 and my 240Z that is just wrapping up it's SR20DET build. I just expect all my cars to be fun... and nothing is a cheaper DD than a bike.

A3's are really run to chuck around. (its the most fun car ive driven...not that my range is very far.)
good man. i'm still on a sv650S. bike #3 i'm hoping to get a daytona 675r
![]() 02/27/2014 at 15:35 |
|
I like the 675R's... but you are just accepting the Triumph maintenance costs. I put them near Ducati for repair bills so be nice to it ;) It's hard to beat that triple though.
The SV650S seems like a good mid-range bike. I rode a couple and liked the twin torque, but kind of missed the screaming power of the I4. My Ninja 1000 is my compromise bike. It's most upright riding position is good for the long rides, the longer I4 power band, and the low end grunt. I just sold off my 636 that was the last extra bike I had...
![]() 02/27/2014 at 15:47 |
|
really? this is the first time ive heard of 675's being high on mantiance costs.
as for the sv. its not bad. but it does have its flaws. sucky suspension and power about 30HP to low
![]() 02/27/2014 at 15:50 |

They aren't higher than any other Triumph, so it just depends where you live. Here in the North West of the US, it's not exactly the cheapest bike to get parts for and the maintenance/repair effort is higher compared to the average Kawasaki/Yamaha/Honda.

oh, that was obvious. i'm in toronto, so i dont think it should be too too bad

My Street Triple R hasn't required anything besides oil changes yet. Valve clearance check is the only big thing that's looming in the distance.

Yeah, it wasn't until my friend had to tear hers down for a full service that the sticker shock really set in. It would depend if you ride a lot or not and what benchmarks you hit. If you only put a few thousand a year on, you probably won't own the bike to a real service and it wouldn't matter.
